Stork Adoption Agency is a nonprofit, child-placement agency that operates within state, federal and international laws governing international adoptions.
Purpose
Our purpose is to bring together children in need of a family with stable parents who can provide them with a happy and loving home. Stork will always have the best interests of the child at the highest priority.
Goals
Our goal is to work morally, ethically, and legally to insure that the child's best interests are served and to facilitate the adoptive parents at the lowest possible cost.
Services
Stork provides services to adoptive applicants and adoptive families. Stork, as an adoption agency with focus on international adoption, does not provide services to birth parents upon relinquishment.
Parents will be carefully screened through an adoption study and a review of public records to assure that:
- The parents will treasure and accept their child for the unique person he/she is;
- The child will have the best medical care possible;
- The child will be properly educated;
- He/she will be taught appreciation of his/her birth culture;
- The child will inherit the same benefits as the parents' biological children.
There are a number of requirements that adoptive parents are obliged to meet:
- There must be an approved social and psychological evaluation.
- There must be suitable housing.
- Parents must have sufficient understanding of appropriate childcare.
Stork has no requirements regarding the parents' age, marital statues, religious affiliation, or ethnic heritage. Some of the countries we work with do have some restrictions which parents must meet.
Stork will only admit into their adoption program children who are legally available for international adoption in their country of residence, using only the appropriate legal documentation, and who reside within foreign government orphanages, hospitals, baby homes or clinics.
Stork works with adoptive parents through the entire process of adoption. We will explain the adoptive process to the parents including the pros and cons of international adoption. We will also assist them in choosing a child from a foreign country.
Stork will perform home studies in Iowa (and will help in locating a home study agency for residents of other states), record checks, assist adoptive applicants in preparation of a dossier, immigration, referrals, and we will also coordinate travel arrangements.
Stork will provide post-placement services to adoptive families from the time the child is placed and until finalization of the adoption. That includes at least three post-placement visits and preparation of post-placement reports, as well as all support and assistance to families as they adjust to their new role.
