Bulgaria is bordered by Romania, Greece, the Balkans, and Turkey and shares a coastline with the Black Sea. Bulgaria is a beautiful country. Its official language is Slavic written in the Cyrillic alphabet. The Bulgarian people are described as warm and friendly.
Children Available
The Bulgarian people have a mix of Gypsy, Turkish and Bulgarian heritages. The children range from Caucasian to Turkish or Romanian. This means that they will have a truly European range of fair to olive complexions. All children are well cared for in state run institutions. They are available for adoption after one year on the registry. The adoption process takes an average of 8 months, so your child could be as young as 20 months of age at the time of adoption. With your referral, you will get the child's history and medical information to review.
Family Requirements
Bulgaria is very liberal as to who may adopt. Married couples with or without children and single women may apply. There are currently no age restrictions.
Travel
The adoption process takes approximately 8 months to complete. Parents are required to make one “meeting trip” lasting 5 days. A second, shorter trip is required to pick up your child.
Visas are not required for U.S. citizens traveling to Bulgaria
